SELF-CARE FOR YOUR HEALTH & WELLBEING

Updated: Dec 24, 2021

When we're bombarded with scary news, we can feel agitated, anxious and stressed. A little healthy stress is a good thing for helping us get up, go and get stuff done. However, prolonged stress keeps our nervous system in a constant state of 'fight, fright or flight', rather than ‘rest, digest and repair’. This has an impact on the whole body – nourishing blood that should be circulating around our organs of digestion, reproduction and respiration is diverted to our muscles instead, in preparation for escaping danger by running or fighting the perceived danger. If stress becomes chronic, there's a negative effect on our digestion and breathing.

HOW CAN WE DEAL WITH ANXIETY?

Check out the APP STORE for mindfulness, meditation or Pranayama Apps (yoga breathing exercises) to help you cope

NATURE CAN HELP, get outdoors for a walk with a friend to chat through ‘stuff’ and give you encouragement and keep you accountable so you get your trainers on and get out as arranged! Hug a tree! Try forest bathing, a beach walk, get up early to watch the sun rise

CATCH UP WITH FRIENDS on the phone if you can't meet in person. Zoom is great for being able to do live group chats - grab a cuppa, a wine and enjoy a natter

INCORPORATE THINGS YOU ENJOY into your day, whether it’s a long warm soak in the bath, reading a good book, watching a comedy, singing along to your favourite music or playing board games with the family
