Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness

Have you taken up Pilates, Yoga or another form of exercise recently and felt a little sore the following day? This is totally normal!

(DOMS), also known as 'muscle fever' is a sore, aching, painful feeling in the muscles after unfamiliar and unaccustomed exercise that kicks in a day or two afterwards. This muscle soreness may deter you from exercising again, but please remember that it's temporary and the more you exercise, the less you should feel it! As a guide, DOMS might feel a little uncomfortable but should feel positive uncomfortable rather than negative uncomfortable

TIPS TO REDUCE THE IMPACT OF DOMS IN CLASS

During class, stay hydrated, take a sip of water now and again

Make sure you do the suggested stretches

Use the massage balls at the end of class and/or at home for some GENTLE self-massage

AFTER CLASS MEASURES

Compression clothing may help

Take a hot bath or shower to dilate blood vessels, promoting blood flow, helping relax muscles

Try alternating cold and hot packs on the sore areas

Take painkillers but if it’s that bad, take easier options in class and please let me know - it might be a technique issue

Rest

Go for a walk to boost circulation

Have a gentle massage or Bowen treatment
